Samples Challenge Day 15.

Background: I noticed that lately, my indie eyeshadow samples are not getting enough love, simply because it's easier for me to reach for tubs. So I decided to challenge myself to use them more often. Everyday, I pick 2 eyeshadow samples randomly out of my collection without looking, and I have to use them. I can add other products in, but the 2 colours have to be the main part of the look.

Today's Backstreets Makeup Co's Hardco-ral & Corca (swatches here)!

I went with something kinda boring today:

Samples Challenge Day 14.

So today I got Beauty For The Win's Thoughts Are Stars (swatches here) & Backstreets Makeup Co's Deoch-an-Dorus (swatches here). Deoch-an-Dorus is one of my favourite colours and I actually got a full size of it! As you can see from the swatches, it looks amazing over primer alone. The problem is Thoughts Are Stars –it only looks good over glitter glue. Over primer, it's just a boring, slightly shimmery black, and the silver, granite-like shift doesn't appear unless it's over glitter glue.

I decided to go with something a bit more dramatic this time, because Deoch-an-Dorus is awesome and I need to use a lot of it.

This was over glitter glue too.

I think fully-lined eyes are not too flattering on monolids, but maybe I still need to find my own style. I should work on this sorts of looks more often.

The lip colour is Life's Entropy's Tundra mixed with a bit of Tilt Shift's Galactic.

Samples Challenge Day 13.

Today I got colours from Canadian companies! I drew Hello Waffle's Rapunzel (swatches here), which is a colour I personally hate on me, and Backstreets Makeup Co's Raven, which is a plain black (swatches here).

I decided to do my favourite "smoked" out liner look with these colours.

This is over primer only. The semi-bald patch is from where my eyes fold and smudge the eyeshadow.

There's a reason this is my favourite look, it's sooo freaking flattering on me. I was so happy, I think I took over 9000 selfies and maxed out my phone's memory space.

The lip colour is a colour I "created" by mixing several lipsticks, foundation and gloss. The cheek colour is Daisy Bird's You Bet I'm Blushing.

Samples Challenge Day 12.

Today is a bit of a special edition of the samples challenge. IMAM had an Indie Truth or Dare thread and these are my dares:

/u/whoadangjamie

Dare: Create a monochrome look with a color you wouldn't typically reach for.

Honestly, I rarely pick up browns/neutrals, but I'll make it more fun and pick colours that I normally hate. This I have to save later, but

Now these 3 challences look like they can be combined:

/u/wakenda
I dare you to pull three samples for your sample challenge!

/u/niamhellen
Dare: I've seen you do tonnes of pretty, bright eye looks. I'd love to see you go neutral on the eyes and do something crazy with the lips or face!

/u/agrumes
Dare: Do a look with blue/green/unusual color lipsticks :p

So here's my 3-colour Sample Challenge colours that I selected randomly – Ten Three Labs' Thank You For Loving Me (swatches here), and Backstreets Makeup Co's The Mintalist & Kricka (swatches here).

I decided to go with an ombré liner because Kricka is one of my favourite colours, and I wanted to show more of it.

Don't have a proper close eye photo, because I opened my eyes too fast and ended up with a scrunched up, tacky mess hidden under my lids.

For the crazy lips, it's Fyrinnae's Burrowing Owl!

I decided to do another look so I don't feel like I'm cheating too much. This is a more neutral eye look, but even crazier lips.

The colours are Limnit's League of My Own & Abracadabra (swatches here). I had to go on a 5am flight for a client meeting, so I figured I'd cheer myself up with colourful lips since I don't have time to do much with my eyes (hence, no close up). I figured I'd just look fabulous during the flight, wipe it off as soon as I land, and then show up at my clients' factory looking boring....

Boring eye make up, fun lip make up.

........turned out I was on the same flight as my client. I stupidly didn't realize there was ONLY ONE morning flight, so everyone's on it. Had to rub off my lipstick on an old receipt I found in my bag because I don't  carry tissues with me. T.T

Samples Challenge Day 11.

Today I got pretty awesome colours! Notoriously Morbid's She's Full of Secrets (swatch here) & Ten Three Labs' It's Your Funeral (swatch here).

Unfortunately, I had a meeting today so I had to keep it relatively simple. Well....as simple as you can go with such bright, vibrant colours...

Isn't it pretty? This is with primer only! Unfortunately, with primer only, the eyeshadow ended up with one big bald hole where my monolids fold in.

I'm just going to pretend that was totally intentional. Full face! The lipstick is a frankenlipstick I made ages ago.

Samples Challenge Day 10.

Today I lucked out and got very workable colours! Hello Waffle's Fey (swatches here), an easy to wear gold, and Backstreets Makeup Co's Meatloaf Again, which is a very wearable brown (swatches here).

These colours are easy to use but kinda boring, so I decided to try it with a pop of colour. I know this is a summer make up trend, but it's always summer in Indonesia so I grabbed my Urban Decay Glide-On Eye Pencil in Electric and this is the look I came up with:

For the lip colour, I layered a hint of Cargo's lipstick in Cece with Sportsgirl's Lighten Up Lip Gloss in She Sells Seashells.

Samples Challenge Day 9.

I finally broke my Notoriously Morbid streak! I drew Beauty For The Win's TSWGO (swatches here) & Daisy Bird's April Showers (swatches here).

I know cut creases aren't the most flattering looks for monolids, but these seemed like cut creases sort of colours, so here's the look I ended up with. I did a less severe sort of cut crease, so it's more in between a cut crease and a halo eye (for a monolid cut crease tutorial, you can head here).

monolid make up cut crease

For this look, I went with primer only. The blue-ish sheen to April Showers is not a colour balance error, the shade actually does have that blue-ish sheen in real life.

Monolid woes...half my lashes get burried under my lids and this happens.

The lip colour is actually the result of me not being able to decide what lip colour to wear. I kept trying on different colours and then realized the stain left on my lips looked good, so I rolled with it.

Samples Challenge Day 8.

Surprisingly today was the first day my boyfriend noticed my make up has been getting....weird. I got Notoriously Morbid's Young Merlin (swatch here) and Eccentric Cosmetics' Time to Dream (swatch here), and according to him, silver and brown just doesn't go together.

I have to kinda agree with him there, I really had to go crazy blending to make this combination work.
monolid make up smokey eye

Both are also muted colours and look kinda blah together, so I added a touch of lime green to brighten to look up. This look is all done over Eccentric Cosmetics' primer only.

Full face! The lips is a "frankenlipstick" I made with several lip colours & eyeshadows I own.

Samples Challenge Day 7.

I can add other products in, but the 2 colours have to be the main part of the look.

Looks like today is a Notoriously Morbid day! I got Tenorman's Tears & Morgana (swatches here).

These colours look a bit too much and too stark at first, but they're really perfect for a mermaid sort of look. Here's the look I came up with:

This was over Darling Girl's glitter glue & Eccentric Cosmetics' primer.
